FIVE COZY PNW VALENTINE'S DAY GETAWAYS

Updated: Mar 14, 2023

Winter can be a rough few months for everyone, but Valentine’s Day coming up offers a reason to celebrate love and a chance to show your significant other just how much you appreciate them. Instead of planning the usual flowers-chocolate-dinner scheme, why not take a chance on a cozy winter getaway this year? Who knows, you may even pick up some home improvement inspiration to bring back to your own love nest. To get you started on planning your most memorable Valentine’s weekend yet, we’ve compiled a list of a few of our favorite, artfully designed, cozy winter getaways in the PNW.

TILLAMOOK OREGON

If you know Oregon, you know Tillamook cheese and if you haven't been to the Tillamook Cheese Factory, you are missing out! Combine a trip to the coast with ocean views from Highway 101, a tasting tour of the cheese factory (add a stop to the Blue Heron French Cheese Company for a European cheese experience as well), views of the Tillamook Bay, and a breathtaking stay at the Mid Century River Front Cabin. As for the digs, I think they speak for themselves. Floor to ceiling windows offering endless views, a warm fireplace, a record player, a river...it's no surprise this stunner was featured in Homestyle Magazine. Book your getaway through airbnb.

SKYKOMISH WASHINGTON

Here we have the abundantly serene SkyCabin located in Skykomish, Washington. If you are looking to escape from hustling, bustling, or tourism, this is the place for you. Surrounded by beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and trails, Skykomish is the perfect place for a secluded nature refresh. Book a stay at this thoughtfully designed cabin that has everything you may need for a simple, yet elevated escape to the woods including chic mid-century modern style interiors, tons of natural light, and full kitchen to whip up your sweetest breakfast-in-bed yet. If you feel the need to wander away from the serene vibes for a day, try checking out the slopes or just enjoy an Irish Coffee at the Stevens Pass ski resort nearby. This iconic, instagram worthy cabin can be booked through airbnb.

SEASIDE OREGON

If you live in the Pacific North West, you know it can be difficult to pin down the most beautiful region here. We have a wide range of scenery from mountains, to rivers, to beaches, to farms. I mean, we are literally immersed in one of the most naturally beautiful arrays of landscapes on the West coast. Enter the Nehalem River. While it is not on the tourism radar as much as other areas, we would argue that any spot along its 118 mile path holds a top five spot as one of the most stunning riverscapes the PNW has to offer. That, combined with this thoughtfully designed modern retreat alone will feed your eyes and soul. This particular spot on the river, however, happens to be in Seaside, which is in fact a tourist hotspot, so we would suggest adding in a trip to Evoke Winery (no judging if you just want to grab a bottle and return to your cozy nest to enjoy) and you are set for a relaxing weekend. If you want to feed your sense of adventure as well, there are plenty of sandy strolls along the Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site or the Seaside Promenade to get you moving. Book this gem on airbnb.

RHODODENDRON OREGON

If you’re looking for the ultimate elevated Valentine’s Day experience, Rancho Relaxo might be the place for you. (Anyone else recognize the nod to The Simpson's episode in the name? No? Just me?) This stunning A-frame cabin is located in Rhododendron, Oregon, near Mt. Hood. A weekend at this charming getaway is sure to leave you feeling refreshed and inspired with it’s artful layout and design, tasteful decor, and stylishly mellow cuddle spots. Rancho Relaxo is on the more spacious side, with plenty of room for a double-date afternoon or even couples yoga if you so desire. Make the most of the remaining winter months and hop over to Mt. Hood Meadows for some snow action, or head over in late April to mid May to see the tiny town's namesake shrubs when their perky blooms are at peak display. Rumor has it that this dream spot is also available periodically for poetry artist residencies. This cool, functional space can be booked through rentbyowner.com.

WALD HOUSE

PORTLAND OREGON

Craving a staycation? Or not from Portland and just want a cozy getaway closer to urban amenities? Wald House is definitely your place. This architectural eye candy passing for a tree house feels like it's in the middle of nowhere when in fact, it's just a skip over to some of the best our city of Portland has to offer. Wald House is kind of famous around here. It was featured in Dwell and actually has it's own website. Not kidding. Check out the Portland City Guide section that they offer while you're poking around for a snap shot of all things Portland. Book through their website or Vrbo.

BONUS:

SQUAMISH TINY HOME

SQUAMISH BRITISH COLUMBIA

This idyllic tiny home is located in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada for those of you willing to venture out further for a more adventurous experience with your special someone this Valentine’s Day. This peaceful, modern home is complete with eggs directly from the host’s hens, soothing rain shower, and a fire pit near the patio to cozy up to on these chilly nights. The city even has a guide to romantic places to dine with your Valentine. We've seen a lot of tiny homes and, hands down, this is one of the best layouts we have ever seen. Even if you aren't booking a Valentine's getaway but just need some inspo for your own tiny home project or ADU, this is worth the trip. You can book your beautiful weekend stay through, you guessed it, airbnb.
